Discuss the pros and cons of a "Single Sign-On" approach for a school district. What is Single Sign- On? SSO is an authentication measure in access control. With a single user/password authentication, a user can access all applications. This could be an email, an assessment, or data management system. Single Sign -On Pros
Single Sign- On Cons
| As a educational technology leader, I can see both pros and cons when it comes to Single Sign On. Staff that uses this authentication measure such as teachers in our district, need a simple and reliable way to access the the applications they need to document progress, access materials, or report student absences. On the other side, teachers and other staff may leave their device unattended which can access private and secure data to unauthorized people. |
In my experience in our LEA, Reporting Systems and Information through the LEA portal has users login twice in order to access the information they need. In addition, there is time constraint on how long the system can be open until its log out automatically.
