This week I went to the community to share our mission, and provided stickers that I ordered through a website. In addition, I opened an online store where people could purchase their own stickers to hand out to the community. This was created because a number of people from instagram asked where they could purchase the stickers.
Also, we had to receive feedback and find a solution to colleagues comments to evolve our product. |

How might we increase access to a biliteracy focus, global, and competitive education for all students?
"To be effective, however, accountability has to be two-way and horizontal as well as vertical. [...] What do we need to do to help ensure your success? What is our reciprocal and relational accountability to one another? How do we each own parts of this problem?” -Tony Wagner
Challenges the group or you as an individual faced
This week for our Ideation Phase on Design Thinking we encountered some difficulties because I started working. Our roles switched, and Angie took the facilitator position for this week when we worked together. I felt very blessed to work with such collaborative people, and I understood the importances of accountability. "To be effective, however, accountability has to be two-way and horizontal as well as vertical. [...] What do we need to do to help ensure your success? What is our reciprocal and relational accountability to one another? How do we each own parts of this problem?” -Tony Wagner Next time, would you do anything differently to better the process? Talk to our team of how we can easily jump into different role to support each other. This is what made this week work! How would you apply this process with students or colleagues at your site? This reminds me of Our theory of action at our school
What traditional and non-traditional characteristics of creativity are reflected in the Ideation Phase? Non- traditional characteristics of creativity involved to incorporated in an social justice topic on biliteracy. More creative characteristics is to think outside the box and look for solutions or ideas that may seem crazy at the time. Another characteristic of creativity is flexibility, motivation, an original. This is the process where we get to have fun with our ideas.
Your individual contribution to this week's work
This week’s contribution continued as a notetaker, and a facilitator during our meetings. In addition, as a team we shared our findings, and themes through our discovery phase. Our group used sticky notes to sort our ideas and move them through themes. In addition we created a visual image with Wordle from our interviews. I also collaborated in our google docs with a brain storming app, and added notes to our Google Presentation slides. Challenges the group or you as an individual faced Our challenges included finding people, at such a short time. I was able to interview online, and visit Hernandez family. In addition survey for parents shared through social media was not successful. Only one person completed the form to understand what the community thinks about biliteracy. Another challenge for the group has been finding time to collaborate constantly while people start their routines, or continue on break. These challenges teaches us how collaborate through the use of social media to brainstorm and find solutions Next time, would you do anything differently to better the process? If I would do anything differently to better the process, it would be have more time to explore, visit and interview more people. Through the use of social media, we can contact professionals in the education field and learn more in depth about the ways we can provide all students with a competent and biliteracy education. How would you apply this process with students or colleagues at your site? I would use Design Thinking Project on the interpretation phase so students can go an explore the education there is outside their classroom. If we are looking at problem and they want to find solutions, they can interview, observe and be involve in their community. After their research, students can come up with a collaborative solution.
Your individual contribution to this week's work
So my task was to create google presentation with each part of the discovery phase. Once I added each slide, through our private google+ community Angie, Raquel, and I started working on our challenge. This was very resourceful once we started collaborating. You can see our work here https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1T3-KQYzUQbwKC07XemhcUDI58ptsZ2-pZrDQR09eiaw/edit?usp=sharing My role in our group is facilitator making sure we are on track while we collaborate, and at the same time we as a group decided to notetake simultaneously. In our Design Thinking project, my role is to interview Nancy Alvarez who is a principal in Texas, and Co-Founder of DualLangChat. In addition, I will interview a migrant parent on his views on languages. Challenges the group or you as an individual faced Our 1st challenge was understanding Design Thinking, and how we could start our challenge because we couldn’t understand. Another challenge is that we did not have the contact information of our missing team member. It was hard to communicate being that we had to work on this project as soon as possible. Next time, would you do anything differently to better the process? If I would do anything differently to better the process, it would be to share the resources I found with all #sdedleadtech members. I only shared it with my team, and later realized how these might help the rest of our group. I shared the tool kit later on, so they could see how the Design Thinking project worked. How would you apply this process with students or colleagues at your site? I would use Design Thinking Project on the challenges in understanding how it works. An example of how this could benefit those learning about Design Thinking through a Visual. I still need more examples of how this is used in the classroom setting with elementary students, but I can definitely use this with colleagues. |
