Discovery 1-CollaborationCollaboration is a key factor when building an EA. There needs to be communication between the stakeholders and not isolate the IT department from the Business department. When roles and responsibilities are aligned everyone's working towards the same goal. Business architecture will guide the departments into a collective vision when there are clear roles and responsibilities and improve decision making. | Discovery 2- Current and Future StateWhen starting this course we looked at current and future states in our own experiences. This is the same for any LEA, we have to look at the current state to plan for future state. Are the services provided by the LEA mission aligned with the services provided? Planning for future state EA can close those gaps in the current state. | Discovery 3- Plan and update frequently and annuallyWhen a EA plan has been created to improve student services, we need to remember that it is a living document, that even though there is a rule thumb on how changes should be made, we need to revise and update annually. It can be easy to fall into a standard and just leave a plan as it is. We need to use any errors that we find to continue and make our EA plan functional to support LEA mission. |

Provide an example of a successful implementation due to strong executive and stakeholder involvement. What occurred?A successful implementation due to a strong executive and stakeholder involvement included implementation of devices for next school year. The Superintendent and the Executive Director were present at this event. There was a group of teachers looking at the devices and asking questions to vendors. All the devices that were an option were aligned with SBAC requirements for their testing. In addition, the district created a Tech Fair where staff were invited to vote for the device of their choice. There were several options to chose from. Having the Asus Devices for a year, teachers knew what things they would change from the devices and how these new devices could serve all students. I think this is a successful implementation of devices. They are not only looking at the requirements necessary for SBAC, but also giving the opportunity for teachers to shop and look at the devices. At the end, they will be the ones guiding students using these devices to integrate technology in the classrooms.
Typically, school districts have maintained separate plans for technology and the district. For example, a district creates a “district education plan” and then has a separate “technology plan.” Moving forward, do you think this is still a good practice, or should they be combined? Please provide a rationale for your decision.
This week you completed a brick for a technology. In your current capacity (teacher, etc.), how could you use this same process to improve your practice?.
Is Your District Ready?
Reflect on the work you did to collect information for the SBAC testing requirements. What stood out to you as key discoveries? found that interviews that I had for previous assignments and classes were very helpful because all the information needed for one MA class could be use to learn about SBAC testing requirements. During both interviews we talked about network, devices, and operating systems used in the district. I made observations of the type of devices we used for student assessment because the devices are also used in primary grades. Each grade level has 5 Asus devices that later are shared with upper grades for SBAC Assessments. The LEA Website is very useful when learning about the devices and network used in the LEA. Their technology plan had information as well as board meeting notes where they presented the devices to integrate technology in the classroom adhering common core standards. Overall LEA researched has successfully implemented their devices with the requirements from SBAC testing standards. What is Application Architecture?
Why is it important for educational programs to use this type of approach? Using this approach you can understand how applications work and how they are supporting an educational agency. It also prioritizes applications and find a way to combine applications, and remove those that serve twice the purpose. My experience I understood the importance of Application Architecture where we defined applications through Program Area of Unit and Application Name. I could see the different applications used in my district and understand the different applications used for management, human resources, communication, transportation. I analyzed and came to realize that some of the applications for data management where duplicates, the same for Educational Learning Softwares.
In my experience in our LEA, Reporting Systems and Information through the LEA portal has users login twice in order to access the information they need. In addition, there is time constraint on how long the system can be open until its log out automatically. References
