Ch 7 Knowing, Making, and Playing "The process of making and remaking context is itself, an act of imaginative play" Question How can we integrate imagination into our everyday teaching? Connection Douglas Thomas and John Seely state that knowledge is becoming less of a "what?" on more of a "where?". This is very similar to a reading from EDL 621 Downes’ YouTube video “LMS vs PLE” where he states “You are the center and you access your content or services from different places around the web” Epiphany We need to start teaching students about how information is constantly changing. It is not enough to just "know" because knowledge will eventually be updated. We need to learn where to find resources to answer our questions. | Ch 8 Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out "As people start to play in their environments, they rediscover the different possibilities." Question If play is so important, why is that in preschool and kindergarten play time is has been taken out of curriculum? Connection "Technology and digital media begin to become an extension of oneself." Thomas and Seely's quote remind me of how I am a digital resident according to David White because I reside part of my life on the internet. You can find a diary of my interests, passions that have defined me as an educator, learner and person. Epiphany When we give students (children or adults) the opportunity to play or explore. They feel more comfortable learning about what is inbfront of them instead of becoming intimidated to what is new. | Ch 9 A New Culture of Learning for a world Of Constant Change "Where imagination play, learning happens" Question How can we add play elements to engage educators in the integration of technology in their classrooms? Connection Video Games give students a sense a belonging and through play they become a better version of themselves. Epiphany Genius Hour seems like play to me. I had the opportunity to explore and it does not feel like it is a task, but more as an experience, where I have time to explore. I am now more open to finding new ways of cooking, but I am also inspired by others projects to want to learn more just by testing the waters. This is play a chance to be messy, explore and learn at the same time. |
