"New culture of learning the point is to embrace what we don't know, come up with better questions, and continue asking those questions to learn more, and more" (38) How can I model to my students on how to embrace what we don't know, but learn to find a solution for our questions? The stories told in this book about the learning process make sense. Learning is messy, and as I started to bake my cake for my 20% I could see the mess that I made. I had extra cake and flan mix, cake powder everywhere. I had to estimate the time the mini chocoflans would bake because it was a different mold. I could not find the answer! I had to try it, and it was a miss or fail. Stories where a community of learners support each other and give feedback is much more rewarding than learning through one way path makes us wonder how learning is changing. We can now learn almost anything through videos, blog posts, or an online community. | I enjoyed reading the story of the professor would constantly change his lecture schedule to accommodate for students interests to share their gaming strategies, having less time for reading discussion. Even though it may have seemed that students where just interested in playing the game, during their final paper students referenced each other, and use their community as resources to understand the reading. As technology advances, families have also have embrace change in the way they can communicate. You can see grandparents motivated to try a new device to communicate with their grandchildren or you can also see how parents interact with their children through online games. The new learning culture has made it possible to create the unthinkable, be more creative, expand our knowledge, and transform our passions. How has the new culture of learning transformed your passion? |
Chapter 1 "But what he has learned the most of all is how to learn from others" Question What can a school do to motivate teachers to learn from each other and apply it in their classroom? Connection One of our first Professional Development at our school was staff volunteering to share some tech tools they have used. Everyone chose the session they wanted to attend. You could see how everyone was excited to learn from teach other. Epiphany Meeting "strangers" through your PLN motivates you to learn and try new ideas in the classroom. How about skyping, or a blog? Your PLN can push you to enhace your teaching skills. | Chapter 2 "When individuals become part of a new culture, they are generally the ones who are transformed" Question How can a collective transform the way you think or do? Connection Any new situation changes you. Even on the example of how technology has evolved and grandparents have become part of this new culture and has led them to communicate with their family and see them no matter how far they might be Epiphany Imagination has changed how we are living. Someone imagined communication through face to face using a device. We have it. Imagination has created tools that has enhanced how we live and communicate. | Chapter 3 "Change forces us to learn differently" Question How often should change take place? Connection I learned that every year as a teacher you will teach differently. New experiences, new students and these changes will force you to recreate a new lesson. Epiphany Learning should be fun, enjoyable, passionate. Sometimes schools are not embracing these idea. We should change how we teach in order for it to show learning to be enjoyable and fun. |
