A short summary of the collaborative work accomplished for this phase Design Thinking Project was very hard for me to understand. I couldn’t wrap my head around it since I did not have experience on this program. Even if I listened to the screencast on the different aspects of Design Thinking, I couldn’t understand its purpose. As 21st century learner, I had to go into researching what this program was about. I found an 80 minute video where two teachers guide other teachers on Design Thinking and they explain how you have to change the experience for your audience of a challenge you have. I continued my journey as I researched Design Thinking, and I found a tool kit, which once reading it cleared my blurr of the project we had to create. The toolkit scaffolded what we needed to do for each phase. | Workshop for Discovery Phase on Edutopia |
Your individual contribution to this week's work
So my task was to create google presentation with each part of the discovery phase. Once I added each slide, through our private google+ community Angie, Raquel, and I started working on our challenge. This was very resourceful once we started collaborating. You can see our work here https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1T3-KQYzUQbwKC07XemhcUDI58ptsZ2-pZrDQR09eiaw/edit?usp=sharing My role in our group is facilitator making sure we are on track while we collaborate, and at the same time we as a group decided to notetake simultaneously.
In our Design Thinking project, my role is to interview Nancy Alvarez who is a principal in Texas, and Co-Founder of DualLangChat. In addition, I will interview a migrant parent on his views on languages.
Challenges the group or you as an individual faced
Our 1st challenge was understanding Design Thinking, and how we could start our challenge because we couldn’t understand. Another challenge is that we did not have the contact information of our missing team member. It was hard to communicate being that we had to work on this project as soon as possible.
Next time, would you do anything differently to better the process?
If I would do anything differently to better the process, it would be to share the resources I found with all #sdedleadtech members. I only shared it with my team, and later realized how these might help the rest of our group. I shared the tool kit later on, so they could see how the Design Thinking project worked.
How would you apply this process with students or colleagues at your site?
I would use Design Thinking Project on the challenges in understanding how it works. An example of how this could benefit those learning about Design Thinking through a Visual. I still need more examples of how this is used in the classroom setting with elementary students, but I can definitely use this with colleagues.
