Interview - Maria del Socorro Bustamante
| I set a date to visit my mom and learn about her passion about cooking. I learned that she did not bake or cook until she was my age and married to my dad. Her mother never taught her to cook or bake so she would ask my dad's mother for advice and recipes because my dad did not like my maternal grandma's cooking. |
These are the questions that I asked her. She was excited to participate in this video.
1. What is your name and where were you born?
My name is Maria del Socorro Bustamante, and I was born in Chula Vista, CA on March 27 1956. I live in Tijuana B.C, Mexico
2. When did you learn how to cook/bake?
At 24 when I got married, Gisel's father loved his mother's cooking style. She cooked mexican food. She was born in Mexico City and she knew how to make diverse dishes.
3. What diverse dishes did she make?
Mole, Menudo, Tortilla Soup, Enchiladas de Moles
4. When did you noticed that cooking was a passion and not a chore?
While I was learning to cook/bake, I would become more interested in cooking. When my children and their father enjoyed the food I would prepare, I became motivated to continue searching for more dishes to make.
5. What are 3 dishes you love to make?
Lasagna, Enchiladas Verdes and Cesar Salad Dressing.
After the interview, I noticed that she eventually stopped making these dishes. "I don't remember you doing Menudo", I told her. She said that she made a variety of dishes when we were younger and had more time when we were in school and she was a stay at home mom. Times changed and she had to start working which meant less time to make these dishes like Menudo.
